Sustainability isn’t only about the environment, it’s a holistic concept that addresses social and economic issues as well. I freaking love great brands with a social or environmental cause. Warby Parker glasses are not only affordable, stylish, and good quality, but you can also contribute to a greater cause when you purchase a pair. Through their buy a pair, give a pair program, Warby Parker has distributed over two million pairs of glasses to people in need around the world.
“2.5 billion people around the world are in need of glasses but without access to purchasing them; of these, 624 million cannot effectively learn or work due to the severity of their visual impairment.” - Warby Parker
To help address this problem, Warby Parker has set up a program to ensure that for every pair of glasses sold, a pair is distributed to someone in need. Their work has reached more than 50 countries including Mexico, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, & Bangladesh.
There are two models used for this program:
1) Empowering adult men and women with training opportunities to administer basic eye exams and sell glasses for ultra-affordable prices. (This accounts for the majority of our distribution.)
2) Directly giving vision care and glasses to school-age children in their classrooms, where teachers are often the first to spot issues.
